What is Panoramic Photography?
The term 'Panoramic' refers to a photograph with wide field of view. Whilst there is no particular point at which a photograph is catagorised as panoramic, it is generally accepted that a panoramic image should capture a view either as large as, or greater than can be viewed by the naked eye. The resulting photographs offer an uninterrupted view of an area, landscape, seascape or other subject matter.
Panoramic Photography Methods
There are many ways in which panoramic photographs can be shot:
- Short rotation or swing-lens cameras have a lens which rotates to capture the image offering a field of view from 110° to 140°
- Full rotation cameras are similar to short rotation, but rather than the lens moving, the whole camera moves a full 360°
- Fixed lens cameras can be used and can capture images with a field of view from 90°to 180°
- Catadioptric cameras use mirrors to reflect the full 360° field and can capture the image from a single viewpoint.
How can Panoramic Photography be used?
Panoramic photography is ideal for capturing landscapes, but can also be used to show an entire room or building that could not be captured as effectively by using standard photography.
PhotoSix are experts in shooting high quality panoramic photos for a variety of clients including hotels, places of interest, tourist destinations and many others. The panoramas produced can be included on websites, for marketing and advertising purposes - e.g. for flyers, brochures and sales letters. Of course they can also be printed and used for display purposes.
